A new surrender to come closer to the Lord
Deb Peacock
We are going into a new season of surrender that is like nothing we have done before. What hill will you die on?
As I was praying I looked and saw a person on a hill and as they bowed or lay down before the Lord the picture pulled back and showed that this hill was on ground like it was isolated from the land around it. So as the person lay down they were elevated higher above the ground.
And then zooming out further again revealed another hill but bigger - it was a mountain. It was the mountain of the Lord. The mountain of the Lord is where we go to worship him and it is where we go to live with him. This journey of life is to be to up the mountain of the Lord.
But here we are on our own hills. These are the ascension we’ve made in our own things, our own making or even where we have pioneered things and established things, become things and now we have that under our belt. It is the position we speak from, our soap box. It is the platform we have been given. It is the role we have been given or we have taken on and stepped into. As we grow and learn we develop resources and skills, we take on roles that we assume we have for life. Without knowing it we come to the Lord with all of those things and they are our hill. Our name, our reputation, our role of parent, our roles.
But the new surrender time is here because the Lord is calling us up the mountain - HIS, THE mountain. We can only go up the mountain if we first go down the hill. While morbid, it is true that we will all die someday - will we die on His mountain with him or will we die on our own hill alone?
And the walk up the mountain is long, it is lifelong. We go step by step around and around and sometimes the same quandaries meet us as we come back around trying to tempt us or war with us. It is upward in motion and so we can’t take much, if anything with us. We must walk day by day and trust that what we need at the new level will be there ready and waiting for us.
It is not our mountain. It is the Lord’s and everything in it is of him, and by him. There is provision in the Lord for he is Jehovah Jireh and just as he provided daily manna for the Israelites, he will provide the needs along the way as we journey with him.
This is the walk of trust in him where we ascend the mountain of the Lord, drawing closer and closer to him all the way.
James 4:10 Draw close to God and he will draw near to you
Romans 11:36 For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.
Psalm 24
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;
for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the waters.
Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not trust in an idol
or swear by a false god.
They will receive blessing from the Lord
and vindication from God their Savior.
Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face, God of Jacob.
Lift up your heads, you gates;
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
the Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates;
lift them up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is he, this King of glory?
The Lord Almighty—
he is the King of glory.
