Moving beyond the giant
Deb Peacock
What started out as an intimidating thing, has become overbearing and controlling to the point of overwhelm. It stands tall but crouches over the top of you constantly berating you for the things you haven’t done and the things you haven’t done right.
It is not a new foe. It as an old friend of a foe. Something you have known for a long time, and over the passage of time it is something that you have had to endure and had to bear. It stands over you now and employs overwhelm as intimidation is no longer enough to defeat you.
But it is time for you to defeat it. It is time to face Goliath and defeat the giant before you. Goliath taunted and tested, mocking the ones who dared to stand against him. But the Lord is revealing that because this started out as something close for you, you are in fact holding on to your Goliath. In the past when it was intimidating you, you needed to respond by going up closer and standing tall in the face of it.
In that time, you dealt with it by holding onto it to hold it back and in place so it would not consume you or pull you out. But now, you are holding this thing and it is looming higher and hunching over you to the point of making it impossible to see anything else. The overwhelming nature of this thing and its judgement is all consuming and the old ways to overcome the intimidation are no longer working.
It is time to move into action so you can be past it once and for all. The Lord stands behind you, several meters behind you and he is calling you. He is beckoning you to come back to where he is, and he says he wants to show you something.
You are torn, do I let go of this giant and go to the Lord or do I stay here to keep control of what this bad thing is doing? If I let go and move backwards, aren’t I backing out, giving up, admitting defeat?
But no, says the Lord, you are letting go of the giant to stand with the Lord and be aligned with him. As you wrestle to let go, you realise your fear of letting go that this giant might explode and the ramifications of what that means in your life could be enormous. But you are so tired, so beaten down and so overwhelmed by this issue and giant in your life. You need a reprieve, and you need a solution.
The Lord beckons you. He is calling you.
Let go of the giant and come back to the Lord.
After looking at the Lord and then keeping an eye on the giant to watch its every move and going back and forth a few times you realise it seems now or never and you take the leap. You look to the Lord and keeping your eyes on him you make a run for it, letting go of the giant and running to Jesus all at once.
And then you are with him. You are right with him, and he turns you around to stand beside him, shoulder to shoulder, both looking ahead. And then, there you see what he sees. You see the giant from this distance, from this different place, from a different perspective. It is from the Lord’s perspective.
Now from this position, Goliath’s sudden movements don’t seem so powerful and can’t affect you the way they did before. You realise that the ground under your feet is stable and that there is so much more going on in life in front of you than this goliath. The giant issue is no longer all consuming.
Then the Lord begins to speak about your whole life in a way that puts the goliath in perspective of your whole life and he seems to become a bit smaller again. As this perspective of the Lord begins to take hold and make sense, there is less tension and the overwhelm begins to fade.
It is here at this point that you will hear the next step you need to take in order to overtake and overcome the giant in your life. For some of you God will be revealing a path that you can walk on that takes you around the giant and there is no direct dealing at all. For others there will be a new word on what to communicate that brings separation and a blockage from that giant for the future. For others there will be a strategy, a heavenly strategy of the Lord revealed for you to conquer and decimate the giant.
Just as David had a heavenly strategy that was completely different to what was expected you will receive such a strategy. The strategy will seem too simple and too difficult all at once. But it will be something you are equipped in already for David had already wrestled the bear and the lion and conquered them in private and that could now be brought out into the open. Strategy you have used in private that was so simple will be brought out where others are aware or even watching, making it seem difficult.
But the Lord goes before you – he was the one beckoning you to help you out and instigate a better way. The Lord goes with you – he is standing shoulder to shoulder with you. And he will go behind you – he won’t let you be put to shame and he will see this through to completion with you.
And in not too long, you will be beyond the giant. Whether you walked around it, blocked it or decimated it, you will be beyond it and onto new things and in new spaces, lands and territories.
Blessings,
For it stands in Scripture: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.” 1 Peter 2:6
You will not leave in a hurry, running for your lives. For the Lord will go ahead of you; yes, the God of Israel will protect you from behind. Isaiah 52:12
I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:3-6
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts”. Isaiah 55:8-9
David and Goliath
But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” 1 Samuel 17: 34-37
(David says:) All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands. 1 Samuel 17:47
